Mechanical Design Engineer (Intermediate / Senior) We are hiring for our client, who is seeking an experienced Intermediate or Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team in Belfast. This Mechanical Design Engineer job will suit someone with strong design experience who has worked across process-led engineering environments such as dairy, food processing, pharmaceutical, industrial processing, utilities, manufacturing or wider process engineering.

Our client is open to speaking with candidates at both intermediate and senior level, so this could suit an engineer ready to step up, or an already established Senior Mechanical Design Engineer looking for a more varied technical and project-focused role. The successful Intermediate / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will support the design and delivery of process improvement and development projects, including layout drawings, equipment drawings, site surveys, P&IDs, PFDs, item and equipment lists, and 2D/3D models.

At senior level, there will also be the opportunity to mentor Mechanical Design Engineers, improve CAD and 3D scanning workflows, and take a lead role across client projects. This role will be based in Belfast, with travel to client sites as required. The Role As an Intermediate / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:
Produce mechanical design work across multiple projects, including plant layouts, equipment layouts, isometric drawings, piping layouts, P&IDs, PFDs, 2D/3D models and equipment lists Carry out site surveys, site measurements and 3D scanning Support the design and delivery of process improvement projects for dairy, food processing, pharma and industrial clients Liaise with process engineers, project engineers, suppliers, contractors and clients Prepare drawings, reports, manuals, commissioning plans and operating instructions Support design reviews, HAZOP reviews, procurement activity and tender preparation Assist with project delivery from initial design through to installation and commissioning Promote strong health and safety standards across design, project and site-based work At senior level, review and approve design work produced by other Mechanical Design Engineers At senior level, support the development of CAD, Inventor and 3D scanning processes across the team At senior level, coach and mentor other engineers within the mechanical design team

The Person The successful Intermediate / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will have: A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or a related discipline Strong mechanical design experience, ideally within dairy, food processing, pharmaceutical, industrial or process engineering environments

Experience with CAD systems, ideally Inventor Experience producing plant layouts, equipment layouts, piping layouts, P&IDs, PFDs, models and technical drawings

Experience with site surveys, 3D scanning or site measurement would be advantageous Good understanding of project delivery, installation and commissioning Strong communication skills and confidence working with clients, suppliers, contractors and internal teams Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and multiple projects A strong commitment to health and safety For senior applicants, experience mentoring, reviewing work or supporting the development of other engineers would be beneficial The Reward The successful Intermediate / Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will receive: A very strong salary package, with the final salary reflecting the level of appointment and the candidate's experience Belfast-based role with travel to client sites as required Opportunity to work across dairy, food processing, pharma, industrial and process engineering projects Varied technical role covering design, CAD, site surveys, project delivery and commissioning support Opportunity to step into a senior role, or continue developing within a senior technical position
