Associate Mechanical Engineer – Data Centres
Location: UK (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Up to £95,000 + profit share
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Chartered Mechanical Engineer to join a growing Data Centre team within a leading engineering consultancy.
This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most technically challenging mission-critical projects globally, supporting the design and delivery of hyperscale and colocation data centres. You will provide technical leadership across mechanical engineering solutions, working closely with clients, project teams and multidisciplinary engineers.
The Role
As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will take a leading role in delivering mechanical engineering solutions across complex data centre projects, providing technical direction, mentoring engineers and supporting client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading mechanical engineering design solutions for hyperscale and mission-critical data centre developments.
- Acting as a technical lead across HVAC, cooling infrastructure and associated mechanical systems.
- Managing and mentoring mechanical engineers, supporting technical development within the team.
- Working closely with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
- Developing and reviewing mechanical designs from concept through to construction and commissioning.
- Providing technical guidance on cooling strategies, resilience, energy efficiency and operational performance.
- Reviewing calculations, specifications, drawings and technical submissions.
- Supporting innovation across areas including liquid cooling, high-density computing environments and sustainable data centre design.
- Contributing to client engagement, business development and project delivery activities.
About You
You will be a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in data centres, mission-critical infrastructure or similarly complex engineering environments.
You will ideally have:
- Chartered status with a recognised engineering institution (e.g. CEng through CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent).
- Significant experience delivering mechanical engineering solutions within data centres or other critical infrastructure environments.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, cooling technologies and mechanical building services.
- Experience leading technical packages and coordinating multidisciplinary design teams.
- Ability to engage confidently with clients, contractors and senior stakeholders.
- Experience reviewing and challenging designs, specifications and technical documentation.
- A track record of mentoring engineers and supporting technical development.
