Amey Consulting – Civil Engineer We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Civil Engineer to join our Consulting Highways Team. With office space in Belfast our we invite applications from across the Northern Ireland.

What you will be doing

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer to join our Highways and Active Travel team. As a Civil Engineer, you will lead junior engineers in designing and delivering a variety of highway and public transport projects, including cycleways, greenways, junction improvements, highway drainage/SUDs, bus priority measures, pavement schemes, maintenance programs, and major roads or bridges. As part of our Belfast team, you’ll work on local projects and support initiatives in Ireland and the UK remotely.

Your responsibilities will include:  To work in a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks. The preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.

Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions. Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc. Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of workload.

Contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.

Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.

We want to hear from you if you have:

A Degree/Masters qualification in a relevant discipline

Relevant experience in civil engineering

The ability to work in a commercial and customer focused way which achieves programme, meets performance targets and generates income

Be confident to work under minimum supervision and competent to check the work of others and supervise less experienced or junior staffA good understanding of DMRB, other national standards, best practice guidance, local standards etc.

A good understanding of the CDM regulations and their relevance to highway design

The ability to support the preparation of briefs for fee quotes for delivery of services when required

Can deliver on time, within budget and to the quality required

Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate apply best practice within the team

Experience of highway design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Causeway Flow, AutoCAD or other specialist packages is desirable
