Job Description Overview Join our Building Structures teams in Edinburgh and Glasgow, with the flexibility to work from either office. You will support the design and delivery of diverse projects across Scotland and the UK, applying technical expertise to develop innovative, sustainable, and safe engineering solutions. You’ll apply engineering expertise across a range of building structure projects, supporting delivery from feasibility through construction, developing sustainable and innovative design solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, and contributing to technical reviews, site inspections, and asset assessments.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to schemes at different stages of the project lifecycle, from feasibility, optioneering and technical review through to detailed design, construction support, site inspection and completion.
This includes live and emerging work associated with airports, universities, local authorities, emergency services, energy networks, substations, transport infrastructure, building safety, retrofit and the assessment and strengthening of existing assets. The breadth of work offers excellent scope to apply senior technical judgement, develop client relationships and support collaborative delivery across multidisciplinary teams.
- Apply technical skills to a wide range of building structures and design scenarios.
- Develop conceptual solutions through to detailed design stages.
- Assist in delivering projects within defined programme and cost parameters.
- Contribute to the multi-disciplinary team approach on projects.
- Undertake research, data collection, and presentation of findings.
- Present results to clients under supervision of a lead designer.
- Present findings and solutions through excellent written communication and report writing.
- Represent AtkinsRéalis at site visits and design team meetings.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance procedures.
- Work in accordance with BIM standards, Digital Plan of Work, and BIM Execution Plans.
- Support and mentor junior or less experienced team members.
- Maintain and develop a broad technical skillset.
- Demonstrate proactive commitment to self-development.
- You’ll bring a strong technical foundation along with a proactive and collaborative approach.
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Member of a relevant professional body, such as IStructE or ICE.
- Chartered status is mandatory for this role.
- Experience designing with traditional materials (steel, concrete, timber, masonry) to Eurocodes.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g. Tekla Structural Designer, Robot, Revit – desirable).
- Willingness to learn and adopt new tools and technologies.
- Interest in digital engineering, automation, and parametric design.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Flexible and versatile in approach, undertaking design, inspection and technical advisory work, with responsibility for project aspects commensurate with proven capability and experience.
