Hays are delighted to be partnering with a well-established environmental and not-for-profit organisation delivering a significant cross-border programme funded through a major public sector funding initiative. This organisation plays a key role in supporting collaboration, research and policy development across a range of environmental and sustainability projects throughout the island of to continued growth and project funding, they are seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join their team on a long-term fixed-term contract.
Your new role
Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the wider finance function, you will be responsible for providing day-to-day financial support and oversight for a large-scale, externally funded responsibilities will include:
- Budget monitoring, forecasting and cashflow management
- Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
- Performing reconciliations and supporting month-end processes
- Preparing financial reports, management information and variance analysis
- Assisting with financial returns and claims submission to funding bodies
- Supporting procurement activities and ensuring compliance with funding regulations
- Maintaining accurate financial records and audit-ready documentation
- Assisting with payroll processing and payroll administration
- Providing financial guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders
Supporting governance, risk management and financial control processes
What you'll need to succeed
- AAT, IATI or equivalent accounting qualification with at least 2 years' relevant finance experience; alternatively, 5 years' experience in a similar finance role
- Previous experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting
- Experience using cloud-based accounting software such as Xero or similar systems
- Strong payroll administration experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial analysis and reporting
- Experience with reconciliations, month-end processes and management accounts support
- Knowledge of audit preparation and compliance requirements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential information
- A proactive and organised approach to workload management
Candidates with experience in grant-funded, public sector, charity, NGO or compliance-driven environments will be highly desirable.
