The Financial Controller is responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and effective management of the company's finances. Working closely with the Finance Director, the role will take ownership of financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, statutory compliance, audit, tax, cashflow control and financial governance while strengthening financial processes, systems and controls, to drive continuous improvements and support effective decision making and business growth.
The Financial Controller will lead and develop the finance team, driving high performance and fostering a culture of accountability through building capability and supporting ongoing professional development. | Qualifications | Essential Fully qualified accountant: ACA, ACCA or CIMA. Desirable Relevant post-qualification professional development. | EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE | Essential Proven experience in a Financial Controller or similar senior leadership role within industry.
Strong background in management accounting and financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial analysis. Proven experience leading, developing and managing a finance team. Strong experience developing, implementing and monitoring financial controls, governance frameworks and compliance processes within a complex or growing business.
Desirable Experience within the construction, engineering, MEP or project-based contracting sector. Systems implementation experience.
Experience of ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or Eque2 Evision. Experience using Power BI, Power Query or similar reporting tools. | ABILITIES & SKILLS | Essential Strong leadership and people management skills. High level of attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and deliver to deadlines. Strong communication, stakeholder management and influencing skills.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Strong commercial awareness and business acumen. Advanced Excel skills with the ability to understand, review and challenge complex financial models and analysis. Proactive approach to continuous improvement and change.
