Senior Actuary – Pensions (18-month FTC) | Hybrid UK | Up to £85k + bonus & benefits
Out client is hiring a dedicated pensions actuary onto one of its major UK government pensions accounts, on an initial 18-month fixed-term contract with strong likelihood of extension.
This isn't a run-the-numbers role. You'll be the actuarial brain behind the calculation work on the account — interpreting scheme rules and policy, shaping the methodology behind the calculator builds, and getting under the bonnet of the rates rather than just applying them. Examples would be guaranteed minimum and maximum payments, guaranteed income payments, factor work and the assurance that sits around it.
You'll act as the link between the actuarial, policy, administration and change teams, translating complex requirements into clear, administrable calculations, and building actuarial capability within the team so the account relies less on external SMEs.
What we're looking for:
- Qualified actuary, or well progressed with solid pensions experience
- Strong grounding in defined benefit schemes and pension calculations
- Comfortable interpreting scheme rules, legislation and policy and turning them into workable methodology
- Able to explain the technical clearly to non-actuarial colleagues
- Experience of GMP/rectification, McCloud, transfers, factor development or calculation assurance is a real plus
What's on offer:
- Salary up to £85,000
- Contributory pension, plus a monthly flex fund (3%) for benefits like private healthcare, life and critical illness cover
- Company bonus scheme
- Full benefits and holiday entitlement — an FTC in name, everything else as permanent
Hybrid working, UK-based. Interviewing from mid-September. Available candidates and those on notice both welcome — we'll wait for the right person.
