Assistant Accountant

Your new company A leading public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join its finance team on a temporary basis to provide cover within a busy asset management and financial business partnering function. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a large, complex organisation that plays a vital role in delivering essential services across Northern Ireland.

Your new role As Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in delivering day-to-day management accounting and financial reporting services for a large operational responsibilities will include:
Assisting with budget setting, forecasting, monitoring and financial planning activities. Producing accurate and timely management accounts and financial reports. Investigating budget variances and providing meaningful analysis to budget holders and senior managers. Supporting budgetary control processes and expenditure monitoring. Providing financial information and advice to operational stakeholders. Maintaining financial records within an integrated financial management system. Developing and enhancing reporting tools, including advanced spreadsheet-based analysis.

Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes and drive efficiencies. Supporting month-end and year-end financial reporting requirements. What you'll need to succeed AAT/IATI qualified, part-qualified CCAB (or equivalent), or hold a relevant accounting degree. At least 2years' experience in management accounting, including three of the following:
Budget setting, forecasting and expenditure monitoring. Financial analysis, management reporting and variance investigation. Integrated finance systems and advanced Excel reporting. Process improvement within a finance function. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines. High attention to detail and a customer-focused approach. Basic Access NI clearance (or willingness to obtain). What you'll get in return Competitive hourly rate of £19.32 per hour.

Full-time role, working 37 hours per week. Initial contract through to January 2027 with the potential to extend. Valuable experience within a large public sector finance environment. Exposure to strategic budgeting, financial reporting and business partnering activities.
