Fire Safety Manager

This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilstremaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.

Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.

Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

In this role you will be:

Fire Competent Person in accordance with The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Principal professional lead for fire safety, assessing the impact of legislative change, regulatory updates and operational developments and ensuring that strategic fire risks are identified, evaluated, budgeted for and managed effectively across the Surrey and Sussex police estates.

Responsible for the development, implementation and review of the joint Fire Safety Strategy, Policy, Fire Safety Management Plan and associated procedures across Surrey and Sussex Police, ensuring compliance with legislation, approved guidance and organisational requirements.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining a consistent, force-wide approach to fire risk assessment, passive fire protection, evacuation, training, audit, inspection and remedial action management, providing clear governance, accountability and assurance.

Responsible for providing strategic fire safety advice to the Police & Crime Commissioner, operational police leaders and project teams, ensuring that fire safety requirements are embedded within estate management, refurbishment, new works, workplace planning and operational decision-making.

Responsible for liaising with partner organisations and other duty holders to ensure that fire safety responsibilities in shared, leased and co-located premises are clearly defined, co-ordinated and discharged.

Responsible for ensuring that fire safety objectives are aligned with wider organisational priorities, supporting legal compliance, operational resilience, life safety and the effective management of estate-related risk across Surrey and Sussex Police.

Responsible for provide professional leadership, direction and oversight to the Fire Compliance Assessor and others involved in fire safety activity, ensuring that work is planned, prioritised and delivered to the required standard across Surrey and Sussex Police

The Fire Safety Manager will also act as the Deputy for both water management (L8) and asbestos management and will support the L8 and asbestos responsible person in their duties and in their absence.
