Job Summary

You will perform GMP production and interpretation of novel recombinant proteins and Gene therapy clinical grade products manufactured at the Clinical Biotechnology Centre on behalf of NHSBT for clinical trials. You will also contribute to the GMP production service leading to release of reports or products. There are many opportunities for career advancement and progression within NHSBT with experience, from managing a section of the laboratory, right through to being a consultant lead with responsibility for the entire laboratory service.

You may use your knowledge to specialise in an area vital to the operation of a modern manufacturing and / or diagnostic service, training and education or research and development. We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions.

Main duties of the job In This Role You Will Be Required To
  • Perform GMP grade production of plasmid DNA and Gene therapy products at the Clinical Biotechnology Centre on behalf of NHSBT in support of clinical trials for our clients
  • Undertake process development activities for plasmid DNA GMP production service leading to improvement of processes for manufacturing
  • Perform routine processes in clean rooms as well as assist in maintaining of GMP clean rooms
  • Following initial GMP production, assist with any subsequent follow up investigations or actions required and complete Quality management activities.
  • Problem solve with the ability to work on own initiative as part of a team
  • Write Scientific reports to support GMP manufacturing for internal and external review
  • Resolve day to day problems within the laboratory or section so that work is completed to an agreed timetable.
  • Anticipate and resolve a range of work-related problems
  • Communicate complex information, including technical and scientific analysis, verbally, in writing and electronically.
  • Assist in training and supervision of support staff.

You will be required to provide cover in times of operational difficulty, with notice.

You will be required to undertake travel and spend time away from base (with appropriate prior notice)

About You Experience and Knowledge
  • Experienced in the use of a range of laboratory equipment.
  • Knowledge of and some experience with molecular biology and/ or cell culture / and or chromatography techniques
Qualifications And Training
  • Graduate in Biomedical Science or appropriate science degree.
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD)
