Job summary

To provide an adult mental health social work service for the eating disorder inpatient services. To work closely with the directorate safeguarding lead to provide and coordinate the delivery of adult social work provision for the service. To be an active and vital member of the multi-disciplinary teams using knowledge and skills to support colleagues in the delivery of care, assessment and treatment to patients with an eating disorder.

To liaise with, advise and support a range of external and partnership agencies both voluntary and statutory. To provide adult social care and mental health expertise and legislative knowledge to the service. To deliver these services in accordance with current legislation, local authority and Trust policies and procedures. To fulfil statutory and other requirements of a local authority employed social worker as and when appropriate.

To work in partnership with service users, families and carers to meet social care needs within a range of highly complex situations that may arise from eating disorders mental health needs:? To work together with the directorate Safeguarding lead to provide an effective social work service for service users, their families and carers by ensuring access to appropriate resources from local authorities and a range of external agencies on a national level:?

To make referrals where appropriate and to provide and access advocacy, information and guidance for service users, carers and agencies? To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary inpatient team exercising social work professional responsibility for providing highly specialist assessments and follow-up for service users referred with complex problems, which includes assessment of risk in terms of self-harm, self-neglect, vulnerability, harm to others, domestic violence and safeguarding children and adults.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre.

SLaM employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

To coordinate care for service users by undertaking assessments and plans for aftercare informed by specialist knowledge of d the Mental Health Act 1983, Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Care Act 2014, Children Act 1989 and Children Act 2004, in accordance with policy guidance and procedures. To engage service users and their families providing direct work as appropriate to assist recovery.

To contribute to ward referral screening and admission processes and to gather information from service users, carers, family members and professionals in order to undertake assessment of social care needs and risk To work as part of the inpatient multi-disciplinary team, attending ward rounds (when required), CPA and planning meetings as appropriate and to contribute to the delivery of highly specialist evidence-based mental health assessment, care planning, treatment and review for service users.

To contribute to complex risk assessment and ongoing risk management and safety planning on the ward and in the community. To contribute to safe discharge planning and arrangements in accordance with child and adult safeguarding, mental health legislation, policy and procedures. To provide social work consultation, training and advice to the ward and community services as needed, with a focus on particular aspects of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, mental health, adult safeguarding and compliance with NICE guidelines.
