We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join NELFT as a Trainee Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) within our Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) across Havering and Barking & Dagenham
.

This is a Band 4 training role
, combining supervised clinical practice with the fully funded CYP-MH Child Wellbeing Practice Postgraduate Diploma at King’s College London
, commencing in January 2027
.

Working under supervision, you will deliver brief, evidence-based interventions and guided self-help to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. You will work closely with children, young people and their families to support their emotional wellbeing and help them develop skills to manage their difficulties.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about children and young people’s mental health who is keen to develop a career within the field. On successful completion of the training programme and required competencies, the post holder will progress to Band 5 as a qualified Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner.

The successful candidate will:

• Assess and deliver, under supervision, brief evidence-based interventions and guided self-help.
• Work collaboratively with children, young people and families to agree intervention plans and outcomes.
• Undertake risk assessments and appropriately escal ate concerns where needs fall outside the scope of the service.
• Manage an agreed caseload and maintain accurate and timely clinical records and outcome data.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, schools and other professionals supporting children and young people.
• Attend and fully participate in university teaching, protected learning time, assessments and study requirements.
• Engage in regular clinical supervision and apply learning and feedback to practice.
• Work inclusively and in accordance with safeguarding, information governance and Trust policies and procedures.

This is a training and development role combining postgraduate study with supervised practice within Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services.

Under supervision, the post holder will assess children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and deliver brief, evidence-based interventions and guided self-help. They will work in partnership with children, young people and families to identify goals, agree interventions and support the self-management of presenting difficulties.

The post holder will manage an agreed caseload, maintain accurate clinical records and outcome data, recognise and respond appropriately to risk, and work within agreed referral pathways and service protocols.

The role will involve working collaboratively with colleagues, schools, families and other professionals. Regular supervision will support safe practice and enable the post holder to apply learning from the university programme to their clinical work.

The successful candidate will need excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to learning and development, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Travel across service locations may be required.

Successful candidates will be expected to commence employment with NELFT on 4 January 2027 to complete local Trust induction and orientation before beginning the university training programme on 18 January 2027.
