Payroll Specialist | Temp | Rossendale | £37k | Full Time | Hybrid Your new company Hays is partnering with a public sector organisation to recruit a temporary Payroll Specialist, following a period of absence within the team. This is a pivotal position responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of payroll across the entire organisation. As this is a standalone payroll role, you will take full ownership of the day‑to‑day processes, ensuring all operations run smoothly.

Your new role Manage the full end‑to‑end payroll cycle for all employees.

Process new starters, leavers, and contractual changes. Maintain payroll data, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. Calculate and process statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SAP. Ensure correct calculation of overtime, enhancements, deductions, pensions, and adjustments Ensure payroll is compliant with HMRC regulations and internal policies.

Prepare and submit RTI filings, including FPS and EPS submissions. Reconcile payroll reports and investigate any discrepancies. Produce month‑end and year‑end reports, including P60s, P45s, and P11

Ds. Maintain and update payroll systems with accurate employee information.

Work closely with HR and Finance teams to ensure aligned data and efficient processes. Support audits by providing payroll documents and explanations when required. Identify opportunities to streamline and improve payroll processes. What you'll need to succeed Previous experience in a payroll position (end‑to‑end experience desirable).Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements. Experience using payroll software (e.g., iCris, iTrent, Sage, Oracle, or similar).

High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Ability to manage workload independently and meet tight deadlines.
