Senior Platform Engineer

My Belfast based client is looking for an established Platform Engineer to help build and evolve a secure, scalable, cloud-native platform on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and Dev Sec Ops , with a strong focus on automation, developer productivity, and reliability.

You’ll join a fast-paced Platform Engineering team that values security-first design, infrastructure as code, immutability, and high-quality automation—and you’ll work alongside engineers who care deeply about doing things the right way. As a Platform Engineer, you’ll help shape the core platform capabilities that power cloud-native applications and data services. You’ll leverage GCP-native services, modern Dev Sec Ops  practices, and automation to deliver scalable, resilient, and compliant platform solutions.

• Design, build, and evolve core platform capabilities on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Develop and automate scalable, resilient, and recoverable cloud infrastructure using infrastructure as code
• Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines to enable secure, reliable, and frequent production deployments
• Implement workflow automation and platform integrations to improve developer productivity
• Enable and operate data platform services, supporting analytics and data-driven workloads
• Partner with engineering, security, and operations teams to embed Dev Sec Ops  principles
• Apply security-first and compliance-driven design across platform services
• Improve platform observability, reliability, and operational readiness
• Drive platform evolution through continuous improvement and automation

• Strong software engineering experience with Java,Python or SQL
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS
• Solid understanding of cloud-native security concepts and secure coding practices
• Experience with containerisation and orchestration
• Kubernetes (preferred), Docker, Mesos, or Docker Swarm
• Container registries such as Google Artifact Registry or Docker Hub
• Strong automation skills using Terraform or similar IaC tools
• Experience with CI/CD tooling such as Jenkins, Maven, and Git
• Familiarity with big data frameworks like Spark, Flink, or Apache Beam
• Experience with system-level testing, quality engineering, and performance optimisation
• Working knowledge of Agile delivery and Dev Sec Ops  methodologies

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience in similar roles
• Cloud or Dev Sec Ops  certifications (GCP, AWS, or similar) are a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems preferred
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and deliver solutions independently
• Comfortable owning initiatives end-to-end in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams
• Clear, confident written and verbal communication skills
