As a Data Reliability Engineer II in CME Group’s global Derivatives Risk Engine (DRE) team, you will play a hands‑on role ensuring our critical database systems are reliable, fast, and scalable. Your focus will be on proactively maintaining and enhancing the reliability, integrity, and performance of our data footprint across a heterogeneous GCP data ecosystem, including Postgre
SQL on Cloud SQL and Alloy
DB, Spanner, Cassandra, Firestore, Bigtable, and Big Query.
- Monitor database system health and participate in a follow‑the‑sun incident response rotation to ensure quick resolution of incidents and prevent recurrence.
- Diagnose and resolve database‑related incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, and track performance metrics to satisfy application uptime and speed requirements.
- Work closely with development teams to understand application workloads and optimize database code and queries.
- Provision databases and schemas as required, applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and CI/CD pipelines.
- Utilize schema migration tools such as Flyway to support deployment across environments.
- Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline data operations and increase scalability.
- Support the implementation of database resilience, backup, and disaster‑recovery strategies, including zero‑downtime deployments.
- Set up and maintain replication and Change Data Capture (CDC) processes.
- Ensure data security, access controls, and encryption comply with regulatory and internal standards.
- Maintain clear, up‑to‑date documentation for data systems, configurations, and operating procedures.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2–3 years of hands‑on experience in Database Administration, Data Reliability Engineering, or a similar role with exposure to database infrastructure.

SQL database concepts and experience with GCP data platforms such as Cloud SQL, Postgre
SQL, Alloy
DB, Spanner, Cassandra, Firestore, Bigtable, or Big Query. - Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, or Power Shell) for automating operational tasks.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Kubernetes Config Connector) and version control (Git) with CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
- Exposure to Change Data Capture (CDC) tools such as Striim.
- Google Associate Cloud Engineer certification or progress toward GCP Professional Database Engineer.
