JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:

ICT Technician 3

REPORTS TO:

School Principal through designated line manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Maximum of five staff

JOB PURPOSE:

To assist the line manager in the development of ICT within the school and ensure that all computer systems and peripheral devices are fully functional to meet the needs of the school.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise appropriate staff including the management and allocation of duties (supervision is defined as having full permanent accountability for planning and co‑ordinating the quantity and quality of work as well as managing issues relating to discipline and welfare).
  • Identify and provide on‑job training to appropriate staff.
  • Plan, design, specify and install all school‑managed network systems, including upgrades.
  • Manage the structured cabling environment of the school network.
  • Provide baseline and application support for all school‑managed systems.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies and the managed service provider on changes to the Classroom 2000 infrastructure.
  • Ensure all systems are fully functional; daily care and maintenance of all computers and their environments.
  • Install hardware and software as appropriate; perform necessary repairs.
  • Organise repair of equipment on site or with agencies.
  • Perform regular backups and ensure system security.
  • Develop and maintain ICT services; set up and maintain e‑mail, intranet and internet facilities.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of the school website.
  • Participate in planning and delivery of induction and training sessions.
  • Assist staff and pupils with hardware and software issues; provide advice for future ICT advances.
  • Set up standalone computer systems for specific teaching/training situations.
  • Assist with provision of INSET in large groups or tutorials.
  • Set up internet and conferencing facilities for specific teaching and training situations.
  • Keep inventory of hardware, software and consumables.
  • Comply with the Data Protection Act and copyright laws.
  • Maintain awareness of ICT developments to keep services current.
  • Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Five GCSEs (Grades A*‑C) including English Language, Mathematics and subject‑specific, or equivalent or higher level qualifications.
  • Minimum one year of experience working in the IT industry.
  • Minimum one year of experience in management and supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of ICT Technician 3 requirements.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to the role.
  • Proven effective planning and organisational skills; ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Effective people management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve outcomes.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Evidence of values orientation reflecting the school’s values/ethos.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA
  • Experience working in IT within a school environment.
  • Hold an A Level qualification in an IT‑related subject, or equivalent or higher level qualification.
