Historic England has a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our National Projects Manager (Digital).

This is a Full Time, Fixed Term Contract until the 30th September 2028.

The location of this role is either Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland) or Cambridge, inclusive with hybrid working.

What you will be doing

Portfolio Development & Delivery (Portfolio) sits within Corporate Services, providing high-quality, cost-effective support services that enable Historic England to care for England’s historic environment effectively. At the heart of the organisation, Corporate Services brings together planning, people, resources and estates to translate strategy into delivery, helping to bring new life to heritage for every place and everyone.

The Digital Team plays a key role in delivering Historic England’s Digital Services Portfolio, the strategic framework for governing, prioritising and delivering investment in digital systems, data and services. The portfolio encompasses a wide range of digital initiatives, including programmes, projects, business-as-usual activities and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, ensuring digital investment aligns with organisational priorities and delivers public value.

As a key member of the Portfolio Development & Delivery team, you will lead the successful delivery of digital projects that support the Digital Services Portfolio vision and objectives. Working closely with Information Management and Technology (IMT) colleagues and business stakeholders, you will drive continuous improvement, deliver user-focused digital solutions, and ensure systems and processes are fully documented, operationally ready and capable of delivering lasting organisational benefits.

Who

  • Experience of managing digital or technology projects
  • Experience of agile or hybrid delivery approaches
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to manage conflicting priorities
  • Able to present project progress to stakeholders - including making recommendations to support decision making.
