Exclusive Role - In-House Solicitor - Exciting new role - Belfast
Conekt Legal is working exclusively with Queens University, Belfast to recruit a solicitor into their legal services team in Belfast. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor to develop a broad in‑house legal practice in a dynamic higher education environment, supporting the University’s strategic and operational activities.
The RoleReporting to a Senior Solicitor, the solicitor will provide legal support across a wide range of University matters including governance, student issues, research, compliance and commercial partnerships. You will work closely with colleagues across the University to deliver practical, high‑quality legal advice and support.
Key Responsibilities- Providing legal advice on a broad range of matters including contracts, student issues, governance and regulatory compliance
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements, collaboration agreements and other legal documents
- Conducting legal research and preparing briefings, summaries and guidance for internal stakeholders
- Advising on student‑related matters including conduct, complaints, safeguarding and equality legislation
- Supporting compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks
- Building effective working relationships with academic and professional services colleagues
- Contributing to the development of internal policies and delivery of training
- Liaising with external legal advisers and assisting in the management of externally instructed matters
- Supporting short‑term projects within Legal Services and contributing to service improvement initiatives
- Qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate in Northern Ireland
- At least 2 years’ relevant experience within a commercial law practice or in‑house legal environment
- Strong legal research, drafting and analytical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Experience of or exposure to public sector or education law
- Experience with commercial contracts, regulatory, intellectual property or employment law
- Understanding of university governance and academic structures
