Waste Operative

LOCATION:
Spirit, Belfast

SHIFT PATTERN:
Monday to Friday, 36 HOURS PER WEEK

PAY RATE: £12.83 per hour

Purpose: Play an integral part in delivering effective recycling and waste services; ensuring receptacles are emptied; recyclables are separated to secure best rebate value; and waste services complement rather than disrupt other business activities. Adherence to safe systems of work and maintenance of excellent housekeeping standards.

• Review & adhere to safe systems of work, policies & procedures
• Adhere to a ‘clean as you go’ approach
• Wear PPE as directed and maintain in good condition
• Decant/empty waste receptacles as required
• Ensure waste streams are segregated properly
• Moving waste receptacles to ensure provision in areas of need
• Coordinate provision of bins, skips and collections by waste contractors
• Ensure adherence to work schedules
• Ensure waste management does not disrupt client operations
• Operate balers & compactors and other equipment (e.g. for cardboard or plastic)
• Promptly report defects of equipment
• Complete check sheets as required
• Maintain excellent housekeeping of all waste areas (including signage & labelling)
• Support communication & awareness activities as required
• Liaise with Site Waste Manager to deliver customer satisfaction

• Willingness to attend training programmes as requested.
• Willingness to take on new skills to enhance the company’s profile and service offering, as per training received.

• Ensure full uniform and s are worn at all times.
• Maintain a professional and tidy appearance at all time.
• Arrive on time for your shift.

• Ensure compliance with and actively promote Health & Safety at work.
• Ensure all PPE is worn, where applicable.
• Report accidents, incidents and near misses of any nature to your Line Manager immediately, or prior to end of the shift.

• A full, clean driving licence.

• Licensed forklift operative (counter balance).

• Experience as a waste recycling operative.
• Has worked at manufacturing facility.

• Experience with in the relevant industry, or a similar environment.
• Time spent in a customer service environment.
• Experience working within a results‑orientated environment.

• Confident.
• Flexible, reliable, responsible, calm under pressure.
• Willing to undergo training/coaching in line with organisational philosophy.
• Positive attitude towards and supporting of change.
• Motivated by a desire to provide a professional service.
