Housekeeping Volunteer

A practical volunteer role supporting a clean, safe and welcoming environment for visitors, service users, volunteers and staff.
Role summary
The Housekeeping Volunteer helps keep the premises clean, tidy and comfortable. This role supports the daily running of the organisation by helping maintain shared spaces, preparing rooms for use, and contributing to a positive experience for everyone who visits or uses the Hospice services.

Main activities
  • Helping to keep communal areas clean, tidy and welcoming.
  • Light cleaning tasks such as wiping surfaces, dusting, vacuuming, mopping and emptying bins.
  • Supporting the set-up and clear-down of rooms before and after activities, meetings or events.
  • Checking toilets, kitchen areas and shared spaces and reporting any issues to staff.
  • Replenishing basic supplies where appropriate, such as soap, paper towels or cleaning materials.
  • Helping with laundry, linen or stock organisation if required.
  • Following health and safety guidance, including safe use and storage of cleaning products.
  • Reporting hazards, breakages, accidents or concerns promptly to the named supervisor.
Skills & Experience
  • Reliable, punctual and willing to help.
  • A practical approach and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions and ask for help when needed.
  • Adhere to strict levels of confidentiality and respect for people using the Hospice services.
  • No formal qualifications are required; experience is welcomed, but not essential.
Support and training provided
  • Induction to the organisation, premises and volunteer procedures.
  • Guidance on housekeeping routines and safe working practices.
  • Health and safety information, including reporting hazards and accidents.
  • Safeguarding training & a DBS check will be required.
Time commitment and location

Days and times can be agreed with the volunteer supervisor. The role is based at the Dougie Mac adult Hospice/ Children & young adults services.
