As we continue our journey toward becoming Ireland’s most trusted and sustainable business, we have an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Director to join the Musgrave Northern Ireland team. As a key member of the NI Management Team, the Commercial Director will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing a robust business strategy across Retail, Wholesale, and Alcohol.
In this role, you will design and implement a comprehensive commercial strategy that ensures timely sourcing and supply of an optimal product offering at competitive prices, exceeding customer expectations and delivering targeted retail price positioning alongside wholesale and retail margins.
Driving Business SuccessAs Commercial Director, you will actively contribute to Musgrave Northern Ireland’s strategic direction and overall business objectives. This includes leading strategic improvement initiatives identified during commercial reviews, supporting One Musgrave projects, and monitoring economic trends and competitive factors impacting the business. You will foster cross‑functional collaboration to align departmental plans and budgets with strategic goals and participate as a member of the One Commercial Leadership Team.
Leadership& Talent Development
You will lead and develop the Trading team, ensuring they have the skills, resources, and support to achieve objectives while upholding Musgrave’s values. By setting clear direction, stretch targets, and conducting regular performance reviews, you will build a high‑performing, engaged and inclusive team. You will champion talent development and succession planning, communicate effectively to engage colleagues, and positively influence culture through coaching and mentoring.
CommercialDelivery
Reporting to the MNI Managing Director you will monitor operational and financial KPIs across Trading and support functions, taking proactive measures to achieve targets. Responsibilities include delivering Supplier Income Targets (Margin, AP&A, LTA) and providing regular reports to senior stakeholders.
Customer OfferYou will develop compelling product ranges and category plans aligned with market trends and customer needs. This includes setting annual pricing policies, overseeing retail price index reviews, and supporting the team in creating annual trading plans and budgets. You will ensure best‑in‑class range reviews, leverage Musgrave’s buying power, and deliver market‑leading promotional offers for convenience and wholesale markets.
Trading FundamentalsYou will establish and maintain efficient departmental structures, processes, and systems to ensure consistent, high‑quality outputs. Continuous improvement of business processes and effective change management will be key to meeting current and future business needs.
Supplier & Customer EngagementYou will cultivate strong, long‑term relationships with suppliers and customers, ensuring alignment through joint business planning and active participation in council meetings, retail clusters, and conferences.
Candidate ProfileThe successful candidate will have/be:
- 5+ years in senior commercial leadership with a focus on Trading within retail or wholesale, with a proven track record in delivering commercial strategies and results.
- Strong leadership and people management experience, including succession planning and talent development.
- Expertise in brand development, organisational change, and progressive retail practices.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Customer‑focused, resilient, innovative, and results‑driven.
- Third‑level degree or equivalent experience.
