Economist – Senior Manager

About The Role

PwC’s Strategy & Public Sector and Economics team is expanding its Economics capability. We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager with a background in applied economics to lead engagements across central government, infrastructure (including Transport) and/or defence. You will be responsible for shaping business case strategies, overseeing the delivery of economic appraisals and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, helping them to navigate complex investment decisions in alignment with the HMT Green Book.

• Lead cost‑benefit analyses, economic appraisals, and risk‑adjusted option modelling for defence and security programmes.
• Lead analytical and quantitative modelling, including economic forecasting and statistical assessments.
• Serve as a senior advisor to clients, translating complex economic concepts into digestible and compelling narratives.
• Provide leadership and oversight across project work streams, ensuring quality assurance.
• Develop client accounts and support business development.
• Coach junior economists to build future leadership capability.

• Proven experience in delivering complex public sector or defence programmes.
• Deep knowledge of the Transport market, Infrastructure market and/or central government.
• Experience leading the development of business cases in line with HMT Green Book principles.
• An Economics Degree (or an international equivalent) or equivalent work experience.
• Strong analytical skills for quantitative problem‑solving, paired with high attention to detail.
• Critical thinking skills to evaluate information, make informed decisions, and develop innovative solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
