British Olympic Association and Team GB
Team GB is the British and Northern Irish Olympic team – one of the nation’s most successful teams and one of its favourite brands. Run by the British Olympic Association (BOA), Team GB competes at the Olympic and Olympic Winter Games (OWG) and other events such as the European Games (EG), Youth Olympic Games (YOG), and European Youth Olympic Festivals (EYOF).
The BOA’s primary purpose is to:
- Select, lead and manage Team GB at Olympic and Olympic Winter Games and all International Olympic Committee (IOC) and European Olympic Committee (EOC) accredited events such as Youth Olympic Games, European Youth Olympic Festivals and the European Games, and
- Develop the Olympic Movement and promote the principles and values of Olympism in our territory of responsibility.
- Develop, coordinate, and lead the strategy, operational management, and delivery for performance nutrition across the Team GB LA28 Olympic Games footprint so that every athlete can thrive and reach their full potential at Games-time.
- Work closely with BOA HoPS, PS leadership group, Chef de Mission group, and Team GB venue leadership teams in the detailed planning for 18 months in advance of The Olympic Games, including the use of Asana programme planning software to ensure the seamless execution of a world-class nutrition service for Team GB.
- Liaise with other NGB nutritionists, clinicians, sports science staff, and other support staff to maximise the nutritional impact on an athletes’ performance, and to optimise their rehabilitation and management when injured or ill, whilst always working within professional guidelines on athlete confidentiality.
- Sit on the Team GB LA28 2028 Performance Services leadership group and to participate in regular meetings (in-person and/or via Teams) offering constructive opinion and support for the overall delivery of performance services across the Team GB LA28 footprint.
- Scope out the requirement for performance nutrition across the different Team GB LA28 venues, including the Preparation Camp, Performance Lodge, Olympic Village, and satellite sites as required.
- Establish and align communication pathways between Team GB and potential catering / chef partners, and where required support the BOA HoPS to run a thorough tendering process to appoint a catering provider(s) for Team GB in LA.
- Establish and build good relations with the LA28 Organising Committee nutritional structures including reviewing the range and scope of food/nutritional delivery within the accredited Olympic environment and to cascade all relevant information down to both NGB and HQ Nutritionists.
- Work with the BOA HoPS to recruit a diverse team of HQ Nutritionists, Dieticians, and Team GB Chef(s) to be deployed across the Team GB LA28 footprint and then manage this delivery during Games-time.
- Work with the BOA HoPS and BOA commercial team to support any partner activations which have a direct and positive impact on Games-time athletic performance.
- Order HQ performance nutrition snacks or consumables within budgetary constraints and activate any commercial ‘value-in-kind’ contracts when appropriate.
- Establish and ensure all Team GB Nutritional Standard Operating Procedures are clear, contemporaneous, and communicated to the wider team and all stakeholders where relevant.
- Model high-performance behaviours and lead by example with optimal health and hygiene strategies to minimise the spread of illness across the Team GB delegation.
- Refer to appropriate specialists and other members of the performance support team where required in the lead-up to, and during the Games.
- Keep appropriate documentation and records of all interactions and keep these records confidential and secure.
- Provide reports on nutrition related activity within the village and other Team GB locations as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable tasks to support the wider operational delivery of Team GB at Games-time
- Promote drug-free sport and have a working knowledge of The World Antidoping Code.
