We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Compliance & Reactive Works Manager to join our Buildings and Facilities Management Team.

You will play a key role in ensuring the Council's property portfolio remains safe, compliant and well maintained. The post is responsible for overseeing landlord health and safety compliance across our General Fund buildings, including areas such as fire safety, gas safety, asbestos management, electrical safety and legionella control.

Working closely with our Area Building Surveyors, you will manage reactive maintenance services through a small team of in-house Maintenance Technicians and external contractors, ensuring work is delivered efficiently, safely and within budget. You will also contribute to property management activities, maintain accurate compliance records and support continuous improvement across the service.

About you

We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of building maintenance, construction and contract management, together with practical experience of landlord health and safety compliance requirements. You will be able to effectively manage contractors, budgets and competing priorities, while demonstrating excellent communication and organisational skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to lead, motivate and support a small team, be customer focused and committed to delivering high-quality services, and be confident in the use of IT systems and Microsoft Office applications.

A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential for this role (reasonable adjustments may be considered in accordance with the Equality Act).

About us

Our last Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that “EDDC is a great place to work, with engaged staff and members” — and we couldn’t agree more. You’ll be joining an organisation that puts people at the heart of everything we do, working collaboratively with our communities to deliver high‑quality services and create an outstanding place to live, work, visit and enjoy.

With a strong focus on wellbeing, a highly flexible and supportive hybrid Worksmart approach, and a commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a workforce culture where colleagues are empowered to be Happy, Healthy and Here.
