Head of Market Compliance

Head of Market Compliance VANRATH is delighted to be working with a leading Northern Ireland energy organisation to recruit a Head of Market Compliance. This is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, governance and operational delivery of market registration and compliance activities across a regulated wholesale energy market. Reporting to the General Manager, you will ensure robust compliance with market rules and regulatory obligations while supporting the efficient operation of the market.

You will lead a team responsible for market registration processes, compliance frameworks, audits and governance activities, while building strong relationships with regulators, market participants and internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining market integrity, driving continuous improvement and ensuring the organisation meets its obligations in a dynamic and evolving energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities Provide strategic leadership and oversight of market registration and compliance activities Develop, maintain and continuously improve compliance and control frameworks to ensure adherence to market rules and regulatory obligations Lead internal and external audits, managing risks proactively and achieving high standards of compliance Act as the principal point of engagement with the regulator, market participants and key stakeholders on registration, governance and compliance matters Build and develop a high-performing team, and manage budgets and resources effectively Provide clear reporting to senior leadership on compliance performance, risks and regulatory developments What You Will Need Essential Significant leadership experience, including leading and developing teams in a complex operational, regulatory or market environment Strong understanding of energy markets, regulatory frameworks and governance requirements Experience managing compliance, risk or audit activities within a regulated environment Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills Legal right to work in the UK (sponsorship is not available for this role) Desirable Degree qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline Experience working within energy markets, market operations or energy regulation Knowledge of wholesale market arrangements Experience engaging with regulators, industry bodies or government stakeholders Experience managing budgets, resources and operational performance Postgraduate or professional qualification in governance, compliance or risk management Benefits Competitive salary and performance-related bonus Private medical cover and pension matching Flexible working, including hybrid arrangements Enhanced holidays, family leave and wellbeing days Wellbeing programme supporting physical and mental health Salary sacrifice schemes (such as cycle to work and EV scheme) Free car parking, on-site EV charging and complimentary lunch Professional development opportunities and clear career progression pathways For further information on this job, apply via the link or contact the VANRATH office for a confidential chat today.
