Sustainable NI is a charity dedicated to promoting and supporting sustainable development across Northern Ireland. We work with councils, government, and businesses to influence policy, deliver projects, and inspire change through education, advocacy, and practical solutions.
SummarySustainable NI is seeking Board Members (Non-Executive Directors) to help the organisation deliver its mission to promote and support sustainable development in Northern Ireland. This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, influence policy, and make a lasting environmental and social impact. We welcome applicants from a wide range of professional backgrounds — within or outside the sustainability sector — who share our passion for creating a fairer, greener future.
We anticipate appointing the role of Treasurer in the near future and as such, we welcome individuals with knowledge and experience of finance or accounting to apply for this position.
We also welcome applications from individuals who have experience of, or currently work in, the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector (VCSE) sector with a track record of driving organisational growth.
About the Role
Our Board plays a vital leadership role, ensuring we deliver on our ambitious strategic plan and maintain the highest standards of governance, transparency, and impact.
We are looking new Board Members bringing a diverse mix of skills, experience, and insights to inform strategic decisions, challenge constructively, and act as ambassadors for Sustainable NI.
We are particularly interested in individuals with:
- Proven senior leadership experience (Executive or Non-Executive) and strategic thinking skills
- The ability to collaborate, challenge constructively, and make evidence-based decisions
- Experience in Finance or Accounting
- Experience in the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Sector
These are voluntary roles requiring around 10 days per year
. Out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed. Board meetings are held quarterly, with a mix of in-person and virtual attendance.
