Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Instructors / Senior Instructors - Aberdyfi

Contract type 40 hours a week, permanent.

We are looking for instructors who have a real passion for the outdoors and an enthusiasm to help young people. Does this sound like you?

Outward Bound courses take young people on a journey of self-discovery. These experiences are often life changing - and you'll play an enormous part in this. You'll take them on amazing adventures on our hills, seas and rivers - helping them to learn just what they're capable of in life.

What you'll be doing

Life as an instructor is varied and rewarding—no two weeks are ever the same. You'll take the lead in designing and delivering activities and journeys that create meaningful learning experiences while meeting course outcomes. Working with the same group of young people throughout their course, you'll build strong connections and see their confidence and resilience grow from start to finish.

As part of a busy residential centre, you won't be instructing every week. You'll also play an important role in the wider team—supporting centre operations, helping with logistics, and working collaboratively with colleagues to create a welcoming and well-run environment for every group.

You'll bring a strong combination of experience, skills, and outdoor qualifications to confidently and safely guide young people through adventure based learning. We've outlined the specific requirements below.

We're looking for people with around 18 months' appropriate experience in the outdoor sector, who hold as a minimum at least two of the following qualifications and working towards the third:

  • Summer ML
  • Rock Climbing Instructor
  • BC Paddlesport Leader; or Paddlesport Instructor and Canoe Award (or equivalent previously recognised awards)

You'll also need a full driving licence and a valid First Aid Certificate.

What's in it for you
  • Our people – join a supportive team of friendly, experienced outdoor professionals who share your passion for adventure and development.
  • Incredible environments – work in the Eryri National Park, with access to some of the UK’s most stunning landscapes, delivering activities such as climbing, cutter sailing, overnight camping expeditions, canoeing, gorge scrambling, and more.
  • Wide-ranging experience – work with diverse groups, from school groups through to apprentices and graduates at the start of their careers.
  • Real autonomy – have the freedom to use your skills and qualifications to shape meaningful outdoor learning experiences.
  • Time to reset – benefit from structured time off that supports a healthy work–life balance and space for your own adventures.

We hold ourselves to high standards. We support one another, step up when it counts and always put young people first.

Mountains behind you, beach in front. This is where work, community and adventure come together. From sea cliffs to Cadair Idris, there's always somewhere to explore and people to join you.

Interviews (in person at Aberdyfi):
Wednesday 23 September 2026.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds – your unique experience and perspective matter to us.

This role involves working closely with young people and requires a disclosure check. We'll handle that as part of the process.

Nature doesn't discriminate. Neither do we.

We're committed to making our recruitment process as fair and inclusive as possible. That means actively working to remove unconscious bias and the influence of privilege from our processes.

We also know how powerful it can be for young people to see themselves in the people around them. That's why we encourage applications from individuals who reflect the diverse backgrounds and identities of the young people we work with. By building a team that young people can relate to, we can help more of them see what's possible.

We endeavour not to discriminate based on age, disability, gender reassignment, marital status, being pregnant, race, religion, sex or sexual orientation.

Looking for something else?

This role might not be for you, but your next adventure could still start here.
