THE EMPLOYER IS: SLOAN'S GYM. We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Café & Gym Assistant to join our team. The role involves working across both our café and gym facilities, supporting day-to-day operations, preparing simple meals, providing excellent customer service, and helping create a friendly and welcoming environment for all members and visitors. The position offers the opportunity to work in a friendly, community‑focused environment that promotes health, fitness, and good nutrition.

Training will be provided for all café and gym systems, including member sign‑ups and food preparation standards. Uniform and staff discounts are included as part of the role. Weekend work is essential, and additional hours may be available.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve hot drinks, smoothies, snacks, and simple breakfast meals.
  • Serve customers and handle cash and card transactions accurately.
  • Use computer systems to sign up new gym members, update customer information, and process payments.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of both café and gym areas.
  • Greet members, manage check‑ins, and assist with basic gym queries.
  • Support with stock management and restocking supplies.
  • Follow hygiene, food safety, and health & safety standards.
  • Assist with events, promotions, and community engagement activities.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Must be available to work weekends (essential requirement).
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Flexible to work between café and gym duties.
  • Basic numeracy and attention to detail when handling payments.
  • Previous experience in hospitality, retail or fitness environments.
  • Experience preparing light meals or operating basic kitchen equipment.
  • Interest in health, fitness and nutrition.
  • Food hygiene, barista or First Aid certifications.

Pay and Hours

Salary: £7.55 per hour for ages 16‑17, £10.00 per hour for ages 18‑20, £12.21 per hour for ages 21 and above. Weekly hours: up to 25 hours. Worktime: to be confirmed with employer. Weekend availability is essential.
