BDM – UK Automation (New & Existing Accounts)
Type: Full-time, permanent
Focus: 60% new business / 40% existing accounts
Role SummaryThe Business Development Manager will drive commercial growth across the UK automation market, targeting manufacturers, integrators, OEMs, and end‑users. This role blends proactive new business acquisition with strategic development of existing accounts, ensuring sustained revenue, increased market penetration, and long-term customer partnerships. You’ll be the face of the business in the UK—identifying opportunities, shaping solutions, and closing deals.
Key Responsibilities- New Business Development
- Identify, target, and win new automation customers across manufacturing, logistics, FMCG, automotive, and industrial sectors.
- Build and manage a robust pipeline using structured outreach, networking, and market intelligence.
- Account Management
- Own and grow a portfolio of existing UK accounts, increasing wallet share and identifying cross‑sell/upsell opportunities.
- Conduct regular business reviews, performance analysis, and strategic planning with key customers.
- Strengthen long-term relationships through consistent communication, value delivery, and problem-solving.
- Map the UK automation landscape, tracking competitors, pricing trends, and emerging technologies.
- Provide feedback to leadership on product positioning, customer needs, and market gaps.
- Collaborate with marketing to support campaigns, events, and targeted outreach.
- Internal Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, project delivery, and technical teams to shape customer solutions.
- Ensure accurate forecasting, CRM hygiene, and reporting of pipeline and performance metrics.
- Support cross-border opportunities with European colleagues where relevant.
- 5+ years in automation
, intralogistics
, industrial equipment
, robotics
, or engineering solutions sales. - Proven track record of winning new business and growing existing accounts.
- Strong understanding of automation technologies (e.g., conveyors, robotics, AMRs/AGVs, PLC/controls, warehouse automation).
- Experience selling into manufacturing, logistics, or industrial end‑users.
- Comfortable with technical discussions and solution-based selling.
- Commercially sharp with strong negotiation and closing ability.
- Pipeline‑driven mindset with disciplined sales process.
- Excellent relationship‑building and stakeholder management.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into customer value.
- Confident communicator, presenter, and problem-solver.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and comfortable working autonomously.
- New business revenue generated (quarterly & annual).
- Growth of existing accounts (revenue, margin, product penetration).
- Pipeline quality and conversion rates.
- Customer retention and satisfaction.
- Market expansion and new sector penetration.
