We’re building and deploying the brain of an AI doctor. Designed and developed by doctors, the platform aggregates and indexes tens of thousands of items of medical content, enabling rapid and accurate decision‑making. It’s currently being used by hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals globally, over 85% of acute NHS hospitals, 40% of all doctors in Ireland and also used in world leading institutions in the US including Stanford Healthcare, Mass General and Boston Children’s Hospital.

We’ve just closed a $12 million Series A fundraise and we’re now hiring our second back end engineer to work alongside our extremely experienced Head of Backend and VP of engineering as well as working with a team of doctors helping build the next generation of AI powered clinical knowledge tools. If you are an experienced senior backend engineer this is one of those rare roles where your decisions will literally influence how doctors treat patients every day.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll play a key role in building and scaling the core infrastructure that powers our platform. This is a hands‑on role requiring deep experience in backend engineering, cloud systems, and architectural thinking.

• Infrastructure tools like Terraform, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Security and compliance practices, especially relevant in healthcare.

• Design and build robust, scalable cloud‑first backend systems.
• Contribute to infrastructure‑as‑code practices and Dev Ops tooling.
• Build and maintain LLM‑powered features such as RAG pipelines for clinical information.
• Develop and optimise agentic document extraction workflows to process clinical PDFs, policies, and handbooks into structured formats.
• Collaborate closely with our product and frontend teams to deliver high‑impact features.
• Write clean, well‑tested code and guide best practices across the engineering team.
• Take ownership of system reliability, performance, and security in a healthcare context.

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Strong AWS proficiency – hands‑on experience building and deploying systems in the cloud.
• Familiarity with embedding models, chunking strategies, and semantic search.
• Experience working in a small team or startup environment.
• A pragmatic problem‑solver who balances speed with sustainability.
• Passion for writing maintainable, scalable code.
• Knowledge of security and compliance best practices (e.g. HIPAA/GDPR, NHS DTAC, SOC
  2).
• Bonus: experience in healthcare, medtech, or regulated environments.

This is not a normal role. You will help define how AI is safely used in front line healthcare. You will work with a small team of clinician engineers who care deeply about both product quality and patient outcomes. You will join at the moment we move from a lean, scrappy team of seven to a scaled organisation with real resources behind it.

You will not be one engineer among many. You will be the person who helps shape how Eolas Medical builds backend infrastructure for years to come.
