Principal Engineer

Principal Engineer I'm currently working with a global financial markets organisation that's looking to hire a Principal Engineer to provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys setting engineering standards, mentoring developers, influencing technical direction, and still getting stuck into coding. You'll play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-performance software while working closely with both technical and business stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:
Leading the technical direction across development teams. Designing and building complex, enterprise-scale applications. Driving architecture decisions and engineering best practices. Mentoring engineers and supporting technical growth within the team. Championing code quality, automation, and modern development practices. Working closely with stakeholders to deliver innovative technical solutions. Supporting continuous improvement across SDLC, Agile delivery, and Dev Ops practices. What they're looking for:
Strong Java development experience.

Experience with Spring, PostgreSQL and Redis. Proven experience building microservices within AWS. Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Dev Ops and Agile delivery. Previous experience in a technical leadership or Principal Engineer position. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions. Desirable experience:
Docker and Kubernetes. React/Type Script. Python for tooling and automation. Experience incorporating AI tools into engineering workflows. Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design, event-driven architecture, GraphQL or observability tooling. Previous experience within regulated financial services or capital markets (MiFID II experience is beneficial but not essential).
