Backend Software Engineer; Java​/Financial services

We are partnering with a leading technology-driven organisation operating within the Financial Services, Fin Tech and Payments sector to hire several experienced Senior Backend Software Engineers.

This is an opportunity to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for building and enhancing customer-facing products used 'll be involved in designing, developing and operating modern, cloud-based applications, collaborating with product, architecture and engineering colleagues to deliver resilient and scalable solutions.

Experience with in Financial Services, Fin Tech or Payments environments is essential.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing, building and enhancing modern software applications and services
• Developing high-quality, maintainable and reusable code
• Contributing to microservices-based architectures and distributed systems
• Building and supporting customer-facing applications used by large user populations
• Driving software quality through automated testing and continuous improvement
• Monitoring application health, performance and operational reliability
• Managing deployments and supporting production environments
• Investigating and resolving production incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing long-term fixes
• Contributing to architectural discussions and solution design
• Identifying opportunities to improve engineering practices, delivery processes and system performance
• Working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver business-critical technology solutions

We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:

• Experience with Spring Boot and microservices architectures
• Experience building customer-facing applications
• Experience with SQL and/or No
  
  SQL databases
• Strong backend engineering expertise and a solid understanding of distributed systems
• Experience delivering large-scale applications, ideally supporting 10,000+ users
• A track record of delivering measurable project outcomes and business impact
• Experience operating services in production environments
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and critical-thinking skills
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Full-Stack Candidates

Whilst backend expertise remains the highest priority, we are also keen to hear from engineers with full-stack experience. Candidates with a combination of Java backend development and React.js frontend development will be considered, particularly where they have strong backend credentials and experience delivering end-to-end solutions.

• Ownership of systems throughout the software development lifecycle
• Experience supporting live production systems
• A pragmatic approach to software design and architecture
• Evidence of improving systems, processes or engineering practices

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
• Typically 3+ years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent
• Experience of developing enterprise-scale backend applications
