The Delivery / Collections Driver plays a vital role in supporting the social enterprise and community work of Emmaus North East. Working alongside Emmaus Companions and volunteers, the post holder is responsible for the safe, efficient collection and delivery of donated furniture and household goods, ensuring a high standard of customer service at all times.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Drive Emmaus North East vehicles to achieve business purposes, including:
  • Collecting donated goods
  • Delivery of purchased items
  • Transporting goods to and from different retail outlets
  • Disposing of items at controlled waste sites
  • Till management including cash handling and dealing with customer refunds
  • Support warehouse and house clearance operations, ensuring effective stock control to maximise sales income
  • Follow Gift Aid processes to ensure maximum revenue generation for the charity
  • Support the viewing, pricing and completion of house clearances, ensuring timely and safe collection and delivery
  • Support shops with pricing, merchandising and serving customers
  • Carry out and complete house clearance viewings with the Area Retail Manager and ensure quotes are professionally sent to customers
  • Support waste management and any other relevant duties deemed appropriate by the Area Retail Manager
  • Be responsible for the vehicle, crew and goods
  • Drive Emmaus or rented vehicles working alongside Emmaus Companions
  • Plan collection and delivery routes to maximise efficiency of time and fuel
  • Instruct Companions on safe handling, loading and unloading of goods
  • Ensure only quality donations and those conforming to relevant legislation (including 1988 Fire Safety Legislation) are accepted
  • Keep customers informed of delays or problems and agree solutions
  • Ensure driving, collection and delivery services comply with the law at all times
  • Be responsible for health and safety for all activities associated with:
  • Loading and unloading
  • Driving and manoeuvring vehicles
  • Use of tail lift (if applicable)
  • Movement of goods within organisational and customer premises
  • Manoeuvre, lift and carry furniture and domestic goods, including use of lifting aids, and supervise Companions
  • Ensure customers are dealt with positively to increase loyalty and attract new customers
  • Do not accept tips of any nature
