Fork Lift Driver

Reed Recruitment is seeking a reliable and hardworking Yard Operative to join our busy building materials distribution and stockholding operation. This hands-on role is crucial for the safe handling, storage, movement, and maintenance of a wide range of construction and building materials. The successful candidate will work predominantly outdoors in all weather conditions, playing a vital role in managing stock, maintaining material standards, and preparing customer orders efficiently and safely.

Duties and Responsibilities Load, unload, and move building materials using forklift trucks and other mechanical handling equipment. Receive incoming deliveries and ensure materials are stored correctly within designated yard locations.

Pick and prepare customer orders accurately and efficiently. Organise stock to maximise yard space and maintain safe working areas. Assist with the loading of customer and company vehicles. Ensure products are handled carefully to minimise damage and waste. Conduct daily pre-use vehicle inspections and report any defects promptly. Carry out regular stock checks and inventory counts, investigating and reporting stock discrepancies.

Inspect incoming and stored materials for damage or quality issues and report accordingly. Maintain a clean, organised, and professional yard environment, supporting general maintenance activities. Required skills and opportunities Previous experience in a yard, warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, or building materials environment. Valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence and practical operating experience. Good understanding of stock control and inventory procedures. Strong attention to detail when checking stock and identifying damage.

Physically fit and capable of manual handling duties. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Reliable, punctual, and hardworking approach to work. Good communication skills. Desired skills and experience

Experience with in a builders' merchant, timber merchant, or construction materials supplier. Knowledge of building and construction materials. Experience using stock management or warehouse management systems. Additional plant or machinery certifications. Driving licence.
