Academic Position in Operations Management KU Leuven is an autonomous university founded in 1425. It was born of and has grown within the Catholic tradition.
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of KU Leuven has a vacancy for a full‑time academic position in Operations Management. The vacancy is open to junior, senior researchers, and PhD students in the final phase of their studies. Applicants will be hired in the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor depending on qualifications and experience. Junior researchers will be appointed as assistant professor on a tenure‑track for 5 years, followed by a tenured associate professor upon positive evaluation.
Duties Research We seek an ambitious, internationally oriented researcher in Operations Management. You should publish in top international journals, attract external research funding, develop international research projects, and advise doctoral students. Your research should contribute to our faculty’s reputation and should demonstrate a strong interest in fundamental science and opportunities for research valorisation.
Teaching You will teach courses in Operations Management at the campuses in Leuven, Antwerp, Brussels, and/or Kortrijk. Courses will be assigned based on your profile and experience. You will contribute to the optimisation and continuous development of our educational programmes and supervise bachelor’s and/or master’s theses. Tenure‑track candidates start with limited teaching duties.
You will develop teaching methods aligned with KU Leuven’s research‑based education approach, emphasizing active learning. You should contribute to our educational philosophy, upholding the high standards of our programmes.
Service We expect you to integrate within the research group, participate in professional group activities, and take up internal service duties. Your teaching and research should serve society, contributing to broader social debate. Tenure‑track candidates start with limited service duties.
Profile PhD in Economics or Business with an emphasis on Operations Management, or a related PhD (e.g., supply‑chain management, operations research) with evidence of expertise. You must have excellent research output or potential, demonstrated through publications in top‑tier peer‑reviewed journals, promising projects, and/or work‑in‑progress papers. Junior applicants should show potential through their PhD dissertation or job‑market paper and academic references.
Experience writing grant proposals and a strong international network are recommended.
You should possess strong teaching skills, preferably with experience in Operations Management. Communication, organisational, and teamwork skills are essential. Expertise in port logistics is a plus.
Your written and spoken English is excellent; the official administrative language is Dutch. If you do not speak Dutch, you will receive language training. Prior to teaching in Dutch, you will be given an opportunity to learn Dutch to the required standard.
Offer You will join a dynamic, internationally oriented research environment in Leuven and will be part of the Operations Management Research group. A starting grant of €110,000 is offered to new professors without substantial other funding (at least 50 % of the funding will be held by the university).
