ASSIGNMENTThe faculty of Engineering and Architecture has a vacancy for a professorship, starting from September 1, 2026. It concerns a full‑time position as Professor in the rank of Assistant Professor (docent, Tenure Track) in the Department of Information Technology, charged with academic teaching, scientific research and institutional and societal engagement in the field of Hardware Accelerated Artificial Intelligence.
The position, funded by the Special Research Fund, is granted the privilege of focusing primarily on research for a period of 5 years. During that period the teaching load will be limited to no more than 8 ECTS credits per semester on average over a period of 3 years.

Academic researchYou conduct innovative and internationally recognized research in the field of hardware‑accelerated artificial intelligence, more specifically on innovative hardware approaches that are better suited to execute AI models (both learning and inference).
Academic educationYou lecture various course units in the discipline of hardware architecture and design for AI systems, more specifically project courses with an AI focus, master’s theses, and a master’s course on hardware accelerators.
Institutional and societal engagementBased on your expertise and experience, you will contribute to the university's operations and/or take on external assignments.
PROFILE AND SELECTION CRITERIA- You have a strong academic CV with international visibility in the requested field:
- Your achievements in the field of research and education contribute to the development of the scientific domain (e.g. publications, presentations, or other academic output);
- You have proven expertise in hardware‑efficient implementations of advanced algorithms;
- You have in‑depth knowledge of advanced chip technologies and have proven expertise in designing such chips in these advanced technologies;
- You are capable to initiate and supervise educational and research projects and to acquire the necessary funding for this;
- You are didactically skilled to teach university students to develop academic competences;
- International mobility is recommended;
- You work in a collaborative way and integrate smoothly into the department/faculty. You look for opportunities inside and outside the university and actively use your network to do so. You have high‑quality international research collaborations.
- In view of the global challenges on sustainability, a research vision in line with the SDGs is a definite asset.
- You show leadership potential or you have leadership experience. More information about leadership at Ghent University.
- If you don't know Dutch, you are willing to learn it. This will be assessed during the selection interview. When taking up a teaching assignment, you must master the language of instruction of the course. - You have a good command of English, at least at CEFR B1 level and preferably at CEFR B2 level.
We offer you a temporary appointment in the degree of assistant professor in a tenure track system for a term of five years.
