Elia Group is driving the decade of electrification, accelerating the energy transition and adapting to new consumption behaviours. Elia Group is building an operations team for the new Elia Digital Platform (EDP). The EDP Platform is a service oriented, cloud-native platform that is being built to provide application teams with self-service capabilities to develop, run and operate their software products. EDP Platform provides services for application infrastructure, data, service lifecycle management, application build and delivery as well as services to operate their software products.

The EDP Platform is deployed as a hybrid cloud, encompassing both private cloud and select public clouds. The EDP BE operations team will focus on the operational tasks for Elia Transmission Belgium’s private cloud.

The team is now looking for a Data Cloud engineer.

As Data Cloud engineer, you will be focusing on ensuring stability & reliability in operations of our day-to-day data technologies (databases, message broker, …) including automating typical deployment and maintenance tasks. You will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, monitoring, and performance of our private cloud-based services. You will be responsible for operating, maintaining and managing data-related services and technologies within our Kubernetes infrastructure.

You’ll collaborate closely with customer success, platform operations, software engineers, Dev Ops teams, and other stakeholders to enhance the performance and availability of our services.

Scope of responsibilities:

• Delivery and operations on all our application-facing data technologies in our private cloud.
• Able to function in a virtual, cross-functional team as an ambassador for the EDP project and ensure development methodologies are aligned to the EDP project principles, standards and implementation.
• Automate deployment and operations on our data processes. Responsibilities include the deployment and maintenance of databases and message brokers.
• Implement observability solutions to monitor the data services health, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Implement and follow-up on policies, compliance and security.
• Help establish an operations team comprised of internal and external employees. Work collaboratively with other members of the team, infrastructure teams, and others. Work with the delivery team for the operationalization of our data technologies for our internal clients.
• Reinforce our operations: executing service requests, handle incidents and follow-up on problems
• Contribute to the platforms documentation and share knowledge.
• Contribute to the development of the data products with a focus on reliability and stability.

Technical skills

• At least 5 years of experience with managing Postgre
  
  SQL databases in an enterprise private/hybrid cloud environment, preferably extended with Timescale
  
  DB.
• Hands on experience with cloud data technologies, especially message streaming with Kafka message streaming (bridge/broker/connect/iceberg), is a must have.
• Knowledge of Apicurio Registry, Jupyter Hub and Apache Spark is strongly recommended.
• Dev Ops toolchain knowledge (Terraform, Helm, ArgoCD, Gitlab CI/CD)
• Experience with Kubernetes operators is required, with custom-build operators being a plus.
• Scripting & programming (e.g. Shell, YAML, Python and Ansible)
