We are looking for a Full-Stack Software Engineer to work at Starion’s premises in Diegem, Belgium.

Tasks and activities

The scope of work will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining both front-end (React) and back-end components for a cutting-edge European crisis management platform (ESA Civil Security from Space program).
  • Building and documenting robust, scalable APIs (i.e. REST, Graph

    QL), integrating both relational and No

    SQL databases.
  • Ensuring production-grade code quality, security, and performance for all deliverables.
  • Implementing advanced front-end architectures using React with Type Script, state management (e.g., Redux or Context API), component modularization, responsive/adaptive layouts and websockets.
  • Integrating and operating in a Dev Ops environment: containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins), cloud deployment (Azure preferred).
  • Writing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for both backend and frontend (e.g., Jest, Testing Library, Cypress).
  • Collaborating in code reviews, actively share knowledge, and enforce clean code, maintainability, and tech debt management.
  • Quickly diagnosing and troubleshooting complex problems across the stack; proactively suggest and implement refactoring or enhancements.
  • Providing critical analysis of programming practices to improve software quality and team efficiency.
Skills and experience

The following skills and experience are mandatory:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Software engineering, Computer science, informatics or Similar.
  • At least 2-3 years in a professional environment as Full stack, front end or Software developer/Engineer.
  • Familiarity with exchange protocols (e.g. REST JSON, Web Sockets) and ability to work with a provided Interface Control Document.
  • Good understanding of UI/UX principles, responsive design, and modern front-end development best practices.
  • Familiar with Windows, Linux and containerized deployments (e.g. Docker).
  • Postgresql and No

    SQL databases.
  • Experience with back-end technologies including message brokers (Rabbit

    MQ, AMQP), geospatial servers is a plus (Geo Server, WFS, WMS), web servers and proxies (Nginx), authentication and identity management (Keycloak), and observability tools (Open Telemetry, Zipkin) in cloud and containerized environments.
  • Experience in Git, Jira, Bit Bucket and working within SCRUM/Agile environments.
  • Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.
  • Solution oriented mindset, with a customer focused communication skill.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Understanding of real-time data (Web Sockets, Signal

    R, event-driven patterns) or experience with systems requiring notifications or high responsiveness.
  • Familiarity with mapping, geospatial libraries (Leaflet, Mapbox, Open Layers) or handling sensor/resource/incident data.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML fundamentals or integration of pre-existing AI components is a plus.
  • Solid grasp of UI/UX and accessibility standards (WCAG/ARIA) to ensure usability for a wide range of users, including those in crisis situations.
  • Comfortable balancing rapid delivery with stability and technical debt control on critical projects.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies (AI/ML, Sensor, EO imagery, etc.).
  • Experience with crisis management software development or usage is highly valued.
  • ECSS/MBSE experience is a plus.
