JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Lead Commercial HVAC Service Technician is a senior-level field professional responsible for delivering exceptional service while leading technicians in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems. This role combines advanced technical expertise with customer communication, job leadership, and quality control to ensure every service call meets company standards for performance, safety, and customer satisfaction.
The Lead Technician serves as the face of the company on job sites—setting the tone for professionalism, technical excellence, and trust with customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead and perform complex troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of commercial HVAC systems
- Support, mentor, and train junior technicians in the field
- Oversee job quality, safety compliance, and workmanship standards
- Communicate clearly with customers about system conditions, findings, and repair options
- Identify repair, upgrade, and preventative maintenance opportunities
- Coordinate with dispatch, service management, and parts teams to ensure efficient service delivery
- Verify that all work meets manufacturer, code, and company standards
- Complete detailed service documentation and job reporting
- Participate in on-call rotations and emergency response when required
- High school diploma or GED required
- HVAC technical school or equivalent training preferred
- EPA Section 608 certification required
- Valid Montana driver’s license and insurable driving record
- 5+ years of commercial HVAC service experience
- Prior leadership, mentoring, or field supervision experience strongly preferred
- Experience with rooftop units, boilers, chillers, controls, and building automation systems
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities
- Ability to explain technical information clearly to customers
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with HVAC controls, electrical systems, and refrigeration circuits
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- High level of professionalism and customer service focus
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and lead a crew
- Physically able to perform field service work including lifting, climbing, and rooftop access
