Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor will help the Plant Manager achieve all production and safety goals. They have overall responsibility for production operations, including managing production efficiency, maintenance, and cleanliness of the production line. The role requires familiarity with all aspects of running a SQF plant.
Responsibilities- Work with the Plant Manager to analyze and manage monthly variances.
- Maintain the production line and machinery asset management in conjunction with Maintenance.
- Serve as the expert on all machines in the production line and communicate troubleshoot issues and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Review and analyze production, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with production specifications, operational issues, and production problems.
- Direct maintenance and sanitation personnel initiatives, including inspections of machines and plant to assure conformance with federal safety and qualification standards.
- Manage asset maintenance and preventative maintenance programs to maximize reliability and uptime.
- Cultivate a safety‑based environment focused on following and improving safe work practices.
- Successfully manage the production team, providing performance feedback that promotes growth and development.
- Collaborate with Food Safety and Human Resources teams to ensure employees and managers have the required safety training and consistently work in a safe manner.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Develop, implement, and maintain GMP‑related processes and procedures to improve safety, productivity, and profitability.
- Lead interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
- Drive strong communication of critical information within the department and across departments.
- Develop team members to increase job knowledge and capability through training and recertification.
- Implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate problems and improve product quality and quantity.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain high packaging and food safety standards.
- Implement corrective actions for any deviations from quality requirements.
- Ensure compliance with GMPs, hygiene practices, allergen management, and preventive controls.
- Maintain the Quality Management System in alignment with SQF Code requirements.
- Develop, validate, verify, and maintain HACCP‑based food safety plans.
- Conduct or oversee internal SQF system audits.
- Verify that CAPAs are implemented and effective.
- Minimize product quality issues by improving and following standard work practices.
- Observe actual procedures performed in the plant and compare them to procedural documentation daily.
- Ensure products are not adulterated and that the plant is SQF ready.
- Manage resources to meet daily schedule attainment requirements.
- Monitor the master schedule to establish the sequence and lead time of each operation to offset demurrage and meet shipping dates.
- Coordinate and expedite the flow of work within and between departments according to the production schedule.
- Analyze production flow and warehouse capacity data to determine optimum efficient processes.
- Apply critical thinking and root‑cause analysis to stabilize, standardize, and optimize the operation.
- 5+ years of experience in a food‑processing environment at a manager or supervisor level.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Bi‑lingual in English and Spanish.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with common desktop software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and email.
- Experience with 3rd‑party audit readiness.
- Proven record of success in implementing process improvements.
- Agile change agent who adapts quickly, addresses opportunities, and drives sustainable results.
- People‑oriented, enjoys interacting with people and working on group projects.
- High‑stress tolerance; thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment.
- Must be able to lift, regularly lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Requires close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must stand/walk for extended periods; perform basic operational functions such as walking, standing, reaching over shoulder, reaching overhead, reaching outward, and bending.
- Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods and provide production floor coverage.
