Overview

Surgery Coordinator - Bilingual (English/Spanish) role at Eye South Partners
. Eye Center of Texas has 6 Board Certified Ophthalmologists and 8 Therapeutic Optometrists across 6 locations. Our physicians and technology enable us to offer comprehensive medical and surgical care, including laser cataract surgery, LASIK, vision correction, glaucoma, retina and vitreous disease treatments and more.

The Surgery Coordinator is responsible for the surgery coordination and education of services for our patients. Responsibilities include premium services conversion, surgery scheduling, paperwork, and patient coordination of all procedures provided by our doctors. The candidate must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, a strong team player, and an effective communicator.

Bilingual Spanish/English Required

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the premium services conversion rate of our patients.
  • Provide patients with pre-op and postoperative counseling.
  • Schedule appointment dates/times for patients and physicians using a computerized scheduling system with the ability to assist patients in being compliant in pre-op and post-op regimens.
  • Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff, both within the clinic/ASC and at outside facilities, providing accurate, timely and responsive information.
  • Coordinate processes and route all paperwork as required to meet physician and facility requirements. Provide accurate, thorough, and complete documentation of all information pertinent to patient treatment.
  • Return and respond to all calls relating to scheduling.
  • Ensure any necessary medical clearances are obtained by the patient prior to surgery.
  • Knowledgeable regarding co-management with referring providers and ensure compliance with scheduling of post-operative visits; communicate with referring providers as needed.
  • Communicate with assigned physician and surgery center staff to ensure all special supplies are received prior to the surgical date and inform ASC of any add-on patients. Reschedule appointments as needed.
  • Assist with ancillary tasks including following up with no-show or canceled surgical appointments, sending H&P orders and consents to outside hospitals, updating surgical scheduler protocol handbook, editing consents and documents as processes change, and coordinating training sessions with physicians.
  • Travel as needed to all locations.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree (AA/BA/BS) or combination of relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgery Coordinator, preferably for an ophthalmology practice.
  • Experience with EMR software (ophthalmology-specific software preferred).
  • Experience with patient customer service; familiar with obtaining authorizations and referrals.
  • Knowledge of contracted insurance plans and procedures.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and medical software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel to all locations as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and work calmly in busy or stressful situations.
  • Adherence to policies and procedures including safety, attendance, punctuality, and personal appearance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers and peers.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing needs; knowledge and adherence to HIPAA, COMPLIANCE, OSHA.
  • Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative and sound judgment.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required.
