Teacher Deaf

Position: Teacher of the Deaf
Become a vital educator at Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf in Belleville, Ontario. This permanent role focuses on teaching Deaf and hard of hearing students from September 2026.

The position requires a valid Ontario College of Teachers' certificate and expertise as a Deaf Specialist. You will be responsible for developing lesson plans and creating individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of Deaf students. Classroom management and effective communication skills, including proficiency in English and American Sign Language (ASL), are essential in this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Teach academic subjects to Deaf and hard of hearing students

• Develop and modify lesson plans according to student needs

• Create IEPs for individualized student support

• Manage classroom behavior with diverse strategies

• Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment

Requirements:

• Valid teaching certificate from the Ontario College of Teachers

• Specialist qualifications in Deaf education or in progress

• Experience teaching students with multiple exceptionalities

• Strong interpersonal communication skills

• Knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education
