Bilingual Classroom Assistant

Support deaf and hard of hearing students at the Sir James Whitney School in Belleville. This role emphasizes effective communication and program assistance in a bilingual/bicultural educational environment.

The Sir James Whitney School for the Deaf is looking for a Classroom Assistant to work with deaf and hard of hearing children. Candidates should have a Community College certificate or equivalent experience in child-related fields. You will assist in both individual and group programs while providing physical care and implementing specialized programs from other professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with individual and group educational programs

• Support multi-challenged deaf students effectively

• Help with students' physical care needs

• Follow specialized program plans from professionals

• Prepare materials for educational programs

Requirements:

• Community College certificate or equivalent training

• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification with AED

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)

• Experience with deaf children and behavioral disorders

• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
