CASUAL LABOURER - HARBOURS

Position Type: Temporary Full-Time

Number of Positions: One (1)

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Employee Group: CUPE

Hourly Rate: $25.15 per hour

Approximate Contract Length: April – October, limited to 200 working days/calendar year

Closing Date: February 27, 2026, at 4:30 PM

PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Reporting to the Harbour Supervisor, the Casual Labourer - Harbours will be responsible for the maintenance of various harbor facilities/amenities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate and maintain the harbour boat to clear the harbour of weeds and other material/debris.
  • Assist with maintaining the general neatness, cleanliness and tidiness of the buildings including performing routine maintenance and repairs to docks, grounds, boardwalks, and other harbour facilities/amenities as needed.
  • Assist customers and organizations using the harbour and provide information and customer service in a courteous and helpful manner.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a valid pleasure craft operator card.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years/seasons experience operating a boat.
  • Must have a valid class G Ontario driver’s license.
  • Previous experience using hand and power tools.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance and cleaning together with knowledge of general grounds maintenance preferred.
  • Ability to trouble shoot, recognize when maintenance is required and provide solutions to maintenance issues.
  • Must be highly motivated and organized and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be reliable, pleasant, and responsive to the needs of both staff and customers.
  • Previous experience working with the public is preferred.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS

Stage 1 – Interviews: Interviews will be scheduled with successful candidates in early March 2026.

Stage 2 – Offer letter and Onboarding Paperwork: Offer letter is expected to go out early April 2026, and an onboarding paperwork date will be included in the offer letter for documents to be returned.

This anticipated commencement of this position is approximately April 2026 until end of October 2026.
