• Provide group and individual counseling to special education students as mandated by IEPs, monitor progress toward IEP goals, and participate in IEP meetings.
• Provide group and individual counseling to general education students and monitor responses to interventions.
• Develop and monitor student responses to behavior intervention plans; provide support and consultation to general and special education teachers.
• Complete psychosocial assessments to assist in determining appropriate special education services.
• Conduct functional behavior assessments and communicate results in parent-friendly language.
• Complete risk assessments for students referred for school social work services.
• Establish relationships with students and parents and participate in school planning.
• Identify community resources and make referrals to support educational and behavioral interventions.
• Provide staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues and collaborate to promote student learning.
• Provide crisis intervention services.
• Maintain state-required clinical records and submit documents for statistical reports per program standards.

• Master's degree in social work; exceptions apply in North Carolina and Ohio.
• Valid social work license in the state you are applying for.
• For Michigan positions, state approval as a school social worker.
• Knowledge of special education processes and procedures preferred.
• Experience with at-risk students preferred if applicable to the school.
