The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse who provides health care to neonates, infants and children up to one year of age. The NNP provides care for critically ill premature and full‑term infants with an emphasis on family‑centered culturally diverse sensitive care. In collaboration with the Neonatologist the NNP has daily responsibility for the assessment and management of patients in high and low acuity.
The NNP practices in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide a continuum of primary, acute, and/or subspecialty healthcare to their patients, enhancing the quality of care through education, clinical practice, advanced knowledge, and research.
- Manage clinical care of patients in the neonatal specialty area.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies and procedures.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to plan and coordinate patient care while promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion.
- Provide counseling and education for families related to the specialty area.
- Promote quality care through ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient care outcomes.
- Support quality improvement and dissemination of evidence‑based practice in the specialty area to all health care providers.
- Maintain current clinical and procedural competence.
- Maintain compliance with all hospital medical staff, office rules, and regulations.
- Education and experience in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Current licensure APRN, RN, CDS, and DEA.
- Current specialty‑specific national certification through the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
- Current NRP and BLS certification as required by specialty practice.
- Current prescriptive authority per state regulation.
- Clinical privileges at healthcare facilities as applicable.
- Schedule varies but includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Shift rotations to NBIMC and TRMC.
- Full time, 40 hours.
