Preschool Family Engagement Specialist 2025-26

Position Objective
The position of Preschool Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive and integrated family support services to enrolled families.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops relationships with families that are positive and goal-directed.
  • Demonstrates acceptance of all types of family groupings and use materials that reflect nontraditional families.
  • Establishes mutual trust with families.
  • Identifies and assesses family strengths and goals.
  • Links families to community resources.
  • Engages families in program activities.
  • Coaches families toward self-sufficiency.
  • Increases the family’s knowledge of parenting, school participation and leadership.
  • Cultivates community partnerships.
  • May act as family support lead and provide training to family support staff.
  • Participates in ongoing family support webinars, trainings and meetings.
  • Develops and engages with families in the implementation of curricula.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, parents, school personnel, community/regulatory agencies.
  • Develops strategies for parent involvement through volunteer opportunities, family nights and other activities.
  • Maintains required records.
  • Attends professional development trainings.
  • Ensures adherence to state requirements as applicable.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to and is supervised by Early Learning Coordinator.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions In This Class Typically Require)

Required:

(Must meet one of the following qualifications)

  • Employment in the same position in the same agency before July 1, 1999.
  • An associate’s or higher degree with the equivalent of 30 college quarter credits of adult education, human development, human services, family support, social work, early childhood education, child development, psychology or another field directly related to their job responsibilities.
  • A DCYF-approved credential from a comprehensive and competency-based Family/Social Service training program.
  • Home visitor Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential from the Council of Professional Recognition.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions In This Class Typically Require)

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Registration in state electronic workforce registry (Merit).
  • Completion of Department of Early Learning background check; TB test.
  • Complete all applicable training requirements.
  • Must maintain flexible hours to provide services when parents are available.

KNOWLEDGE (position Requirements At Entry)

  • Understands family and relationship development cycles.
  • Recognizes influences of diversity and culture.
  • Knowledgeable of families as systems.
  • Knowledge of community resources for families.
  • Washington State Department of Early Learning program requirements.

SKILLS (position Requirements At Entry)

  • Possesses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with children and adults.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgement.
  • Ability to organize and complete tasks.
  • Works effectively with children, parents and co-workers as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrates multicultural sensitivity with the ability to effectively and collaboratively work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work:
