Materials Test Engineer

Talascend is seeking a Materials Test Engineer for a long-term,contract career opportunity on-site at our client's facilities in Bellevue/Everett, WA.

Overview
This role supports the Natrium Materials Testing and Characterization team in developing and executing test programs for advanced materials in sodium-cooled fast reactors. It involves hands-on laboratory testing, coordination with external partners, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee test programs for material performance, including mechanical testing and neutron irradiation

• Define test requirements, plans, and procedures for materials in complex environments

• Lead collaborative materials testing projects with national labs, suppliers, and partners

• Maintain schedules and ensure timely delivery of testing results

• Conduct laboratory testing and material characterization

• Manage procurement of materials, equipment, and services

• Analyze test data and generate technical reports

• Support the design and operation of custom lab experiments

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related field minimum with Master's degree preferred

• 6+ years experience in nuclear materials testing and characterization

• Strong knowledge of mechanical testing for metallics

• Hands-on laboratory and metallography/SEM-EDS experience required

• Proficiency in experimental techniques and technical documentation

• Experience with neutron irradiation effects and coatings is preferred

• Familiarity with ASME NQA-1 standards is a plus

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with external partners
