Senior Fire & Life Safety Specialist (189228)
HDR’s Fire & Life Safety team is growing rapidly and we are looking for a highly motivated Senior Fire & Life Safety Specialist to join our multi‑disciplined design and engineering teams. The role reports to the regional Fire & Life Safety Business Class Lead and serves as a consultant to both internal project teams and external clients.
Responsibilities- Create fire suppression or fire alarm system designs in a BIM model from design information and data provided by engineers and architects.
- Generate contract documents from the model and perform other BIM uses identified in the planning documents.
- Analyze design software and integrate analysis models/data with Revit.
- Apply NFPA and industry standards for fire protection systems.
- Work with engineers and architects across all project phases, from concept through construction, with minimal oversight.
- Provide leadership and communication across multiple consultants, disciplines, and project team members.
- Review shop drawings, specifications, RFI’s, and CPR’s.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including project planning, staffing, and successful delivery.
- Associate degree in a closely related field or high school diploma with a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Advanced levels of NFPA, ICC certifications or other specialized credentials related to Fire & Life Safety.
- Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Revit 3D modeling and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to lead designs specific to area of expertise.
- Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
- Minimum of 20 years of similar experience in building design within an A/E firm or related industry.
- NICET certification or Bachelor of Science degree.
- Experience with Autodesk products – Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks.
- AutoSPRINK or EASE software experience or other design analysis software.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and PDF creation software (Bluebeam, Adobe).
- Commitment to grow the FLS team nationally and to collaborate in a team environment.
- Travel may be needed at various times, domestically and internationally (estimated < 15%).
