Base pay range
$52.00/hr - $85.00/hr
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful structural analyst. This dedicated position focuses on analyzing the mechanical performance of core components in high‑temperature and high neutron fluence environments. Candidates must have extensive experience in structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
The role reports to the Structural and Stress Analysis Manager and works as part of a team of engineers and scientists developing next‑generation advanced nuclear reactors.
Responsibilities- Perform stress analysis for Natrium Core Assemblies using FEA and hand calculations.
- Present analysis results to internal and external stakeholders.
- Interface with the Core Component Design team’s engineering design activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary Engineering and Project Teams on requirements and inputs.
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities.
- Perform peer review to maintain the expected quality standard as per the engineering quality assurance plan.
- Work as a technical point of contact for various focus tasks.
- B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university;
Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered. - Minimum of 5+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, or 2+ years with an M.S. degree, or 0+ years with a Ph.D. degree.
- Proficient in finite element stress analysis and commercial mechanical stress analysis and modeling tools, with emphasis on ANSYS and Solid Works.
- Strong understanding of solid mechanics, fracture mechanics, and fatigue failure.
- Demonstrated experience in structural analysis, buckling analysis, thermal analysis, and/or creep fatigue / inelastic analysis.
- Familiarity with stringent quality assurance requirements such as ASME NQA‑1, MIL‑Q‑9858A, or ISO‑9000.
- Working experience with pressure equipment design codes and standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Div. 1 and 5, Section VIII Div. 2, and API 579‑1.
- Experience with conceptual design and sizing for equipment and structural components through basic calculation and utilizing Mathcad.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative teamwork approach.
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and foster teamwork.
- Highly skilled performing finite element analysis of reactor core components using ANSYS and/or ABAQUS.
- Experienced with implementing and interpreting ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code Section III and/or Section VIII.
- Thorough understanding of code and standards requirements related to seismic design of equipment (e.g., ASCE 4, ASCE 43).
- Working knowledge of computer code development and proficiency in programming tools such as Python.
- Working experience utilizing Mathcad.
- Previous experience in the nuclear industry.
